Hedgie's Rental Reservations

To Make a Reservation:

Our unique rental reservation service puts you in touch with selected owners of apartments and cottages throughout the Czech Republic. You see availability instantly with our online calendars. You pay without having to fax or call with your credit card. Here's how it works:
  1. You must be a registered Hedgie member to make a reservation.
    If you are already a member, just click the 'login icon' at the bottom of any page and sign in.

    After registering and logging in, preliminary reservations may be made without payment. However, a deposit will be required to hold the reservation.

  2. Note that all payments, including reservation deposits, are by PayPal , not credit card.
    Hedgie members from countries unable to join PayPal may request other payment methods, such as bank transfers, by e-mailing us.

  3. Browse what is available, then select the place you want to reserve.
    (You need to have Java Script and cookies enabled on your browser.)

  4. Once you are logged in, click on "Make a reservation." Select a 5 to 10 character name for your intial transaction. This functions somewhat like a traditional "confirmation number." All changes and correspondence about this particular reservation will be tied to this name, as well as to your user name and password. Make a note of it.

    If you make several different reservations, you must give them different names e.g. Chill1, Chill2 . . .

    NOTE: If you decide to change the dates of your stay in a particular cottage or apartment, this is considered a new transaction. You must cancel your previous transaction and make a new one, with a new name, e.g.Chill2B

  5. Check availablility carefully on the calendar provided for each property. The color code is important. See Key to the colors.
    You may make reservations for days colored green.

  6. Select the number of nights you want to stay. Check minimum stay requirements your host has posted, as well as arrival and check-out times.

  7. After you make a preliminary reservation, this will be confirmed by e-mail. You have 3 days (72 hours) to pay your deposit to hold that reservation. If no payment is received in 72 hours, your reservation will expire and the accomodations will immediately become available to other members.

  8. The status of each of your individual transactions will be displayed on your own account page. Answers to any questions you may ask will be sent to your email address directly by the owner.

  9. Before your arrival date, you will receive the address and driving directions for your specific accomodations, as well as a voucher confirming all the terms you and the owner have agreed upon. Print this and bring it with you. Your host and/or a friend who speaks English will meet you at or near the property at a mutually-agreed-upon time to welcome you, show you around, and answer questions.

Terms of Reservations

  1. Deposits:
    Reservations are held with a deposit of the first night's rent or 15% of the total cost, whichever is greater.
    Examples:
    • You are renting for one week at €400 per week or €57 per night. The deposit is €57.
    • If renting the same place for 2 weeks for €800 , the deposit(15%) is €120.
    • If renting a place for a 3-day weekend for €65 per night, you pay for the first night.

  2. Cancellation of a paid reservation:
    • If you cancel at least 30 days before the first day of your reservation, your deposit will be refunded less a € 5 handling fee.

    • Cancellations made less than 30 days before your arrival date will have a proportional charge deducted from the deposit. The sooner you cancel, the more of your deposit you get back.

    • If you do not cancel your reservation and fail to show up, this is considered a serious breach of our on-line Civil Community. Your entire deposit is forfeited to your host and your Hedgie membership may be cancelled.

    • All cancellations must be done on-line using Hedgie's Reservation Service, not by phone or e-mail. Once you are on the road in Europe, you can access your Hedgie account from any Internet cafe.

    • All changes in reservations will be confirmed by e-mail.

  3. Late arrival:
    To avoid confusion as well as cancellation penalties, if you are unable to meet your host at the designated time, or unable to arrive for the first night but do want to keep the remainder of your reservation, contact your host as soon as possible before your scheduled arrival. You will, of course, be charged for the unused night, but will not lose either your deposit or your reservation.

  4. Balance due:
    The balance of the rental amount is payable to the owner on arrival in the currency agreed upon, usually Czech crowns. Owners do not take credit cards. Optionally, and by pre-arrangement with the owner, you can pre-pay the entire stay with Hedgie.

  5. Basic Supplies
    Hedgie encourages hosts to stock all the basics supplies for the kitchen and bath, such as cooking oil, sugar, salt, spices, soap, etc. Many provide much more, and also like to prepare a welcome snack.

    This is not yet standard practice in the Czech rental business, as it is elsewhere. If you rent a cottage or apartment through someone other than Hedgie, you may encounter the more traditional Czech way of doing things where guests bring all supplies with them, even including linens. Of course, this is easy if you are Czech and vacationing in your own country. We have encouraged our hosts to provide for international travelers who have different needs as well as a different perspective.

  6. Cleaning and heating deposits/fees
    A few owners ask for cleaning deposits or bill electrical heating separately from daily or weekly fees. Some charge extra for wood. This has been the more traditional Czech way: asking custuomers to pay only for what they use. Such extra fees are noted in the write-up for each property.

    In cases where such fees are separate, an estimated deposit will be collected by your host on arrival and the final bill settled between guests and owner after reading the meter and inspecting the property at departure time.

  7. In the event that there is an unexpected problem,(e.g. plumbing or electrical failure which can not be solved in a reasonably short time), the owner is responsible for finding guests alternate and comparable accomodations for the duration of the problem, at the guests' request.

  8. Refunds:
    All refunds of deposits are handled by Hedgie's Rental Reservation Service. Refunds are sent only to the same account from which deposits were originally paid. It may take one to two weeks.
