While I'm in Prague, I want to buy some Czech crystal. I'm not sure what's available. Any advice?

Answer Summary

Prague's historic center is saturated with crystal shops, and a wide variety of styles are available in both crystal and glass. Czech crystal and glass become more varied every year, so it's an excellent idea to familiarize yourself with the riches available before you come.

Traditional cut clear crystal stemware and tableware are perhaps the best-known, but you can also find the same pieces in blown clear crystal, etched crystal, colored crystal, stained glass, enameled glass, and "high enameled" glass painted with gold leaf and decorated with flowers.

There is also "art glass": exquisite vases, platers, and bowls as well as sculptures of natural objects and abstract forms. True museum-quality works are now more available to the general public.

Finally, there are the world-reknown Czech mouth-blown hand-decorated Christmas ornaments. Hedgie gives you tips on where to find the best selection.
