Czech Enclaves in The United States

Periodic waves of Czech emigration, beginning with the violent imposition of the Counter Reformation in Bohemia in 1620 and continuing through the twentieth century Nazi and Soviet occupations and oppression, have dispersed many Czechs throughout the world.

In the United States, Iowa, Texas, Nebraska, and Chicago have large Czech communities which keep many of the old customs and hold festivals. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania was founded by Moravian Brethren missionaries, who also founded Moravian College. These sites provide many links to pages about early Czech settlements and influences.
